Handicapped QUEENSRŸCHE Fan's Concert Ticket Ordeal Leads To Lawsuit
December 29, 2006The Hampton Union reports that a nonprofit corporation that fights for the rights of the disabled is suing the Hampton Beach Casino in Hampton Beach, NH after one of its members couldn't purchase tickets to a QUEENSRŸCHE concert there because it was not "fully accessible."
Access with Success, a Massachusetts organization, filed the civil suit on behalf of all its members earlier this month in federal court.
The suit was prompted after one of its members, Dino N. Theodore, went to purchase tickets on Oct. 18 to the QUEENSRŸCHE concert that was going to be held at the casino.
Theodore is paralyzed from the chest down and requires a wheelchair. He claims he could not enter the casino because it does not comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. He also claims he couldn't even purchase tickets because it was not "fully accessible."
In addition, he claims he pressed a button with a handicapped symbol on it and nobody responded.
As a result, Theodore claims he had to return to his car and get his wife to go up the stairs to get a staff member to come down to allow him to purchase the tickets.
Theodore claims that while a staff member sold him tickets, she refused to allow him to tour the facility because she didn't know how to work the elevator. He wanted to tour the facility to ensure it was handicapped-accessible.
